It has frequently been noted that prose published from within the academy can be difficult for us general citizens outside of it to digest. An example is provided here to indicate that it is not a recent development. This is from a presidential address to the members of a discipline that will remain unnamed to protect the guilty.
“The epistemological Kuhnian reductionists and Mertonian developmentalists as well as the Parsonian or Marxian macro-systemic and Schutzian micro-idiosyncratic weltanschauung are well in the process of being debated at length.” 1980.
And well should they be.
